AUCTION ENDED
David Baghdasaryan SOLD, A few years ago, 2020
About the Artist and the Artwork
David Baghdasaryan was born in 1989 in Yerevan. Graduated with honors from the Faculty of Design of the Moscow Open Social Academy, and studied fine arts in the studio of Mark Ibshman. David Baghdasaryan is the director of the Tapan Armenian Museum in Moscow, as well as the chief artist of the Armenian Gavit Theater and the independent creative association A-theatre.

The current auction presents the work "A Few Years Ago" from a series of illustrations for Lermontov's poem "Mtsyri" - the tragic story of a highlander boy. The feeling of loneliness permeates not only the poem but also its visual embodiment. The mood is created by the contrast between the mighty landscape, like a carpet, enveloping the entire area of the sheet, and the small figure of a man. The contrast is also conveyed by the very technique of linocut, the main effect of which is expressed in sharp contrasts of black and white. It is no coincidence that linocut was loved by artists whose creative temperament is prone to expression, drama, and conciseness. To date, the technique of engraving on linoleum is considered undeservedly forgotten and is extremely rare in the works of contemporary artists.

Bagdasaryan is a regular participant in group and solo exhibitions in Russia and abroad, charity events, and masterclasses. In October 2021, David's work Bathing the Golden Calf took part in one of the largest international exhibitions Artexpo New York. The artist's works are in the collections of museums and private collections. Member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, the International Art Fund, and the International Council of Museums.
